The Nigerian Communication Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT LTD). is set to launch the first Pan-Africa Communication Satellite, NIGCOMSAT-1 in February 2007.

NIGCOMSAT-1 is a super hybrid Geostationary Satellite to be located at 42.50E, with a launch mass of 5150kg, a service life of at least 15years and reliability of more than 0.70 by the end of lifetime.

NIGCOMSAT-1 is being built with radiation-hardened technology, high reliability, onboard software re-programmable ability, fault tolerance, robust on-board switching system, high redundancy and high efficiency.

The Communication Payload comprises C-band (4active transponders), Ku-band (14 active transponders), Ka-band (8 transponders) and L-band (2 active transponders).
